Short Biography
A visual artist, born 1978 in Israel. Gelfman's main mediums are installation, painting and street-art.
A graduate of the Shenkar College of Engineering and Design in 2006, she’s since had seven solo exhibitions, the latest at the National Art Gallery, Bangkok. She has participated in numerous group exhibitions at prominent venues in Israel and abroad, including: The Israel National Museum,
Tel Aviv Museum of Art, Haifa Museum of Art, The Herzliya Biennial, Overture Art Fair (Art Basel Miami), Tama University of Art (Tokyo), and Art Rooms (London).
Her works have received significant media attention and praise in printed and online global media, as well as in films and on TV.
In 2013 she gave a TEDx talk in Tel Aviv. Since 2009 Gelfman has also become an active figure in the global street-art scene,
where she is best known for her tangible work and the unique technique of drawing with yarn on walls.
In 2015 Paper Magazine named her among the top ten street-artists in Israel, and her works were featured in international art books
in Germany and France. Her street art can be found in countries across five continents.
In July 2017, Gelfman embarked on a year-long experiment/performance across the USA with Roie Avidan - her partner in life and the co-founder of Mind the Heart! Project (est.2009). In the past decade, the project has reached more than 100 cities across 5 continents: from New York to Bangkok, Sydney to London, from the Israel National Museum and the National Cathedral in D.C. to orphanages in Kenya and Uganda.
The USA experiment based it's premise on being present, with serendipity as the leading force. This has proven to be an incredible force. It led the project to hundreds of spaces and numerous partners, including 5 exhibitions, two museum commissions and dozens of lectures. At the moment Gelfman & Avidan are working on a book and several exhibitions to sum up this year. To learn more about MTH project.
